Hosting your SRUK Summer at Home

Here's our step by step guide to planning your Summer at Home event:

1. Register your interest with us

Tell us because we want to know your incredible plans for hosting SRUK Summer at Home and how you'll be raising funds for us. Use our sign up form below to register and you'll also receive our free fundraising pack with lots of great materials to make your event a success. Whatever you're doing, let us know and we'll support you every step of the way.

2. Decide what you're going to do

Decide what makes summer special for you and capture it with SRUK Summer at Home. Perhaps it's the sounds and smells of festival season or maybe you're the lazy afternoon type who enjoys nothing better than afternoon tea with a friend?

Be as imaginative as you like, there's no rules!

(Please always follow Government guidance on social distancing so you enjoy summer safely).

3. Choose a date when you'll be hosting your SRUK Summer at Home

Choose a date when your friends and family will be available to enjoy your fabulous summer event. Before fixing a date, we suggest asking people for their availability – this will avoid you needing to make inconvenient date changes and is particularly important when inviting a smaller group because of social distancing. Then send an invite to make sure it's locked in the diary!

4. How will you host your event?

We can get together and enjoy summer but must continue social distancing.

Hosting your event outside - in the garden or local park- will mean you can invite more people (up to six from different households) but you might prefer hosting online.

Hosting your SRUK Summer at Home as a virtual event is easy - choose an online video platform (Zoom, Google Hangouts, Houseparty) schedule your event and invite your friends for a unique virtual summer experience.

5. Set up a JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving donation page

The easiest way to encourage friends and family to support your Summer at Home event is with an online sponsorship page. Setting up a page is straight forward and we will automatically receive any donations made on the page.

We suggest using JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving - use their online instructions to set up your page and kick start your fundraising.

6. Promote your SRUK Summer at Home fundraising!

Let friends and family know you are fundraising for us and hosting SRUK Summer at Home. Government guidance on social get togethers means you'll need to limit the number of people, so only invite the recommended number.

You can promote your fundraising on all social media channels – explain why you are fundraising for SRUK and share your JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving link for people to donate. Sharing your story will inspire friends and family to donate.

7. Host your Summer at Home event

You've planned everything – the food is ready and playlist sorted. The bunting is up and there's too much punch! – you've even taken every precaution to enjoy your event safely.

It's now time for you to relax, host a fabulous SRUK Summer at Home event and enjoy the carefree feeling of summer.

Remember to give your fundraising another social media push - remind your followers that today's the day and it's not too late to make a donation.

8. Say thank you!

Hooray! It's time to celebrate the success of your amazing fundraiser.

Thank everyone for taking part and for their donations. We suggest sharing a thank you message on social media and including fun snaps from the day which will help involve people who couldn't attend your event.

Top tip: You can create more impact by video recording a thank you message – it's a more personal way of thanking someone for supporting your fundraising and could even inspire someone to increase their donation.
