As the government has stated, you can apply for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) if you have a disability or health condition that affects how much you can work.

ESA gives you:

  • money to help with living costs if you’re unable to work
  • support to get back into work if you’re able to

You can apply if you’re employed, self-employed or unemployed. You will also need to have paid a certain amount of National Insurance contributions. If you are employment you will need to work for less than 16 hours a week and do not earn more than £195.50 a week.

New applications can be made by calling the Universal Credit helpline on 0800 328 5644, or alternatively to apply online, please click here.
