Volunteer Student Ambassador

Why we need you

Scleroderma and Raynaud's UK (SRUK) student ambassadors raise the profile of SRUK across their University by partnering up with societies, local businesses, bloggers and other local contacts. Are you a passionate individual who can help us share grow our audience and impact?

What will I be doing?

Your role will involve raising more money for services for people living with Scleroderma & Raynaud's by:

  • Putting up posters and leaflets promoting our Cosy up with a Coffee and Step Out events during our Scleroderma and Raynaud's awareness months (RAM and SAM).
  • Organising your own fundraising events in support of SRUK throughout the year such as a karaoke night, a quiz, a fashion show or sports tournament.
  • Asking teachers/lecturers to hold a coffee morning in the college/ university
  • Getting students together to organise a coffee morning within your place of education
  • Promoting our local fundraising events, challenge events and runs.
  • Distributing SRUK collection tins at your school or college and collection the donations.
  • Organising your own fundraising events in support of SRUK throughout the year such as a karaoke night, a quiz, a fashion show or sports tournament.

Raising awareness of SRUK and gaining support:

  • Talking about what Scleroderma & Raynaud's is and how SRUK can help in your assemblies, student council meetings or within your student union meetings
  • Letting teachers know about the packs available from our website
  • Putting posters and leaflets up in your building and onsite GP office to promote keeping healthy and help sign post services for those diagnosed with the conditions.
  • Connecting lecturers with SRUK to know that we can provide case studies for medical students to help with their education and making the next generation of doctors more aware of our conditions.
  • Asking teachers, lecturers and students to become campaigners by having a campaign sign up day.

What skills and attributes do I need?

  • We are looking for a confident, friendly individual who is happy to speak to lots of people at different levels such as teachers, students and parents, who also has confidence in public speaking.
  • Adherence to SRUK's policies, including health and safety, equal opportunities, confidentiality, financial guidelines and agreement to uphold SRUK's reputation at all times
  • An interest in Scleroderma & Raynaud's care and the services that SRUK provides
  • Participate actively in making your year as Student representative a success.

What support will I be given?

  • Volunteers will be given an induction into the charity, giving you background on who we are and what we do.
  • This role will be very varied with constant communication between you and your SRUK line manager.
  • You will receive all materials appropriate for the role.

Where will I be based?

You will be performing this role at your university/college. You will be based within your place of education.

What will you gain?

  • A certificate and letter of achievement for your record of achievement/UCAS application/CV
  • Experience of event planning, fundraising and of the charity sector in general
  • Knowledge that your support is helping the 19 thousand people living with Scleroderma and the ten million who are currently living with Raynaud's in the UK.

Additional information

Travel expenses will be covered, in line with SRUK's expenses policy, and any other pre-agreed expenses.
