SRUK has a 30 year legacy of supporting vital research into Scleroderma and Raynaud’s phenomena. We have made it our mission to transform outcomes for patients, injecting much needed funding into highly promising research areas.

Professor Chris Denton and his team have set out to uncover why some individuals with systemic sclerosis suffer from digital ulcers whereas others suffer from vascular complications. By assessing the gene variants involved, they have identified a group of genes that may be linked to cardiovascular disease.

In 2010, SRUK awarded a grant to Professor Arianne Herrick and her team at the University of Manchester for research to be conducted on nailfold capillaroscopy, which provides rheumatologists with a non-invasive window into the circulation in the nailbeds of patients.

The relationship between systemic sclerosis (SSc) and cancer, an idea first presented in the 1950s, is currently being examined in an epidemiological study funded by SRUK and led by Dr John Pauling at the University of Bath.
